I just finished The Dogs of Babel by Carolyn Pankhurst. It was a very quick read, fairly enjoyable, but a little bit sad.
I'm thinking about starting either The Crimson Petal and the White or East of Eden soon - I'm on my first day of a 9-day vacation, so I want to cuddle up with a good...
Do any of you use book thongs? I make them, and I enjoy using them while I read. They're just something a little crafty and pretty for me to look at instead of a plain piece of paper.
If you want to make one for yourself, here's a link with instructions (they're easy and fairly...
I'm glad to see I'm not alone in taking a week or more to read a book. I have always thought that I read quite slow. My mother can finish a book a day if she has the time. My eyeballs just don't go that fast.
I'm also a "tongue warbler" - when I read, I sometimes catch myself mouthing the...
Thanks to all of you who replied and at least tried to give me some guidance. ;)
I've decided to name my blog Partly Cloudy. With a subline, of course, of: "with a slight chance of violent thunderstorms."
I'll post the address here later on today so you can all visit and make me...
That's what I'm looking for: something that is totally unique. I can't stand the brain-numbing titles of some blogs like "My Journal" or even "So-and-So's Blog."
I'm designing a new blog, and I need your help in coming up with the perfect name for it. It's going to be mostly personal, with a sprinkling of news, education, and fun. I want the blog name to be reflective of me and what I like. Here are a few keywords to help you help me create the right...
Went to the store today and purchased:
Wicked by Gregory Maguire (anyone read it? like it? hate it?)
Got in the mail yesterday from Amazon:
Blue Dahlia by Nora Roberts (don't yell at me for this one, okay? I love her.)
I'm looking forward to reading both of these, especially...
I think the cover is brilliant, I'd like to read it.
However, in my work organization, all the managers are women. But it might look vulgar to have a woman in a skirt/dress with her head up her rear.
It's 5 o'clock, but the main thoroughfare on your way home is clogged up with horrible traffic due to a bad wreck; and when you get off an exit to take the back way, you dodge to prevent hitting a squirrel and knock your side mirror off by running into a mailbox.
I wish my co-workers weren't...
You are all funny and helpful.
bobbyburns - you are probably more right than you know. I've been feeling quite lonesome lately, having wished my best friend off to Australia (I'm in the US) and realizing that I have no real "girlfriends" left since we've all scattered out over the world...
Last year I read about 25 books. This year I'm on track to read about as many. But - I have taken on a new goal of reading at least 60 by 2006. Why? Because I have 100+ unread books on my shelf at home, and I feel guilty when I buy new books. I even bought a book on speed reading and tried...
...so I thought I would come here to ask for your suggestions. Every once in a while, I get in this funky mood where I'm wanting to do something fun, educational, and useful (besides reading, of course). But I just don't know exactly what I want to do.
Anyone here have any helpful...
I'm in love with everything about books. I'm very smell-sensitive, so of course I love the clean woody scent of the pages of a new book. I'm also a sucker for covers (that gets me into trouble quite frequently!). While I am reading a book, when I'm finished for the moment, I usually close the...
I'm looking for suggestions for books with powerful, vivid, colorful imagery. I don't necessarily enjoy overly flowery language, but I do love books that seem to "put me there." Reading is a form of escapism for me, and there's just nothing like a vibrant place to go to at the end of the day...
I really, really loved "Must Love Dogs" by Claire Cook. One part made me laugh so hard that my husband came in the room to ask if I was okay. It's a cutesy book, for those of you who might like a light read every once in a while. :)
