i finished this last week and have spent the last few days just mulling it over in my head. it is a lot to grasp, and is challenging not only in it's content but the style in which it is written. i won't pretend to know all the literary tricks of the trade that jonathan safran foer has used, but...
susan.
no kidding.
has anyone heard of "skinned teen" before? i googled them and they were a girl punk band from london in the nineties.
anyone have any more info? i'm just curious.
this is my 3rd carol shields novel and i loved this book. i find her a difficult read, i will get stuck on a sentence and reread it 4-5 times before i start back at the top of the page again. however, i like this. i feel challenged by her and enjoy that i have to work to understand.
unless...
i went to a party this weekend and we started snapping pics. when we were looking at them there was, what i thought, quite a cute one of me and a girlfriend. my friend "bob" says, oh jenn you're so much better looking in real life.
i had to laugh, but was like, oh thanks

yesterday one of canada's most notorious killers, karla homolka was released from prison after serving her 12 years. she made a deal with the prosecution which saw her sentence reduced, and she is now a free woman. i won't go into the details, but here is a link chronicalling her and her...
and i am here at my 2000 post!
i would like to thank all of you for a very interesting, fun, and emotional forum. this is my absolute favourite bit of writing and i will borrow it, with thanks to mr. steinbeck.
you came upon me carving some kind of little figure out of wood and you said...
i hope you all have a great day tommorow. sunny weather, and many beers!!
oooo canada! terre de nos aïeux,
ton front est ceint de fleurons glorieux!
car ton bras sait porter l'épée,
il sait porter la croix!
ton histoire est une épopée
des plus brillants exploits...
i'm not a fan. as a rule i am pretty ambivilent about him. i will go see his movies but i find him really *blech* in interviews. lately though he is everywhere saying something or doing something moronic. i tried to watch him on oprah when the interview was re-aired and i just could not do it. i...
today is a bit chilly so even though i have shorts on, i put on a pair of socks. my favourite socks. they are heavy cotton, dark blue with a white band. i'm wearing them out. they are getting thin on the bottom. but i love these socks. i can't bear to part with them. they make me think of the...
so as some of you may know, i am pretty involved with my local family resource center. i am on the fundraising committee and we just had our first official fundraiser that went brilliantly. we are in the very early planning stages of our next event. what we are hoping to do is put on an...
hey dads, happy father's day. i hope you all like the ties, saw, rakes, coffee cups, bbq's, clay ashtrays, or whatever your children got you. i hope you are sleeping in, eating burnt pancakes or reading the paper while your children dote on you.
big hug.
jenn
i finished this last week. having just read the other boleyn girl it was definitly a contrast in writing styles. where tob was very descriptive and would go deep into the thoughts of the protagonist, pearl was the opposite. still it was very good. i came away with a sense that vermeer was a...
