I thought there was a thread on this already but a search failed to find anything.
Being bibliophiles we appreciate books for more than just the tales. We like how they feel in our hands, the texture of covers, the smoothness of pages, the smell, whether aged or new and of course the artwork...
With the movie out starring Leo it's finally going to be a more commonly discussed topic. The evils of the diamond industry. It's faceted in evil. ;) Anyone know of a book detailing all the dispicable things done for silly little rocks?
Perhaps that thread should get cleaned of its requests for help and the subsequent posts of nonsense. Even with the refusals it will look like a place where help can be solicited.
Chapters, Canada's largest book retailer promotes books with 'Choice Lists'. iRewards Member's Choice, Teacher's Choice, etc. They're lists created by surveys. Author's Choice is the newest 'Choice' feature and easily the most interesting.
I would guess they'll have more authors weigh in...
For those that don't know a remainder is I'll explain with an example.
Recently I got myself a hardcover copy of Saturday by Ian McEwan for $9.99 brand new. This book was published in hardcover in 2005 (in Canada) and sold for $34.00. After a while sales of the book slowed and extra copies...
Since I'm in a bitching mood I figure it's a good time to point out that images in posts are rude. I didn't ask to see the pics. I go to discussion forums to read discussions not look at pics. Now I have to scroll through pics to get to discussions.
I've had perfectly fine posts deleted without any reason given! I understand this isn't a land of free speech but apparently you can say the dumbest shit you want except pointing out said dumb shit.
F'n ridiculous.

If you're into historical fiction here are some suggestions.
Authors
James A. Michener
James Clavell
Edward Rutherford
Bernard Cornwell
Conn Iggulden
Some books that cover the category by authors who did not specialize in Historical Fiction:
Pillars of the Earth Ken Follet
A Tale...
Figured this author deserved his own thread in our forum of Author discussion.
There's already this thread but nothing on all his works.
I just finished Microserfs which surprised me in many ways. At the end of the year when I reflect on which books I enjoyed most this book will be on the...
I've decided that I will read one non-fiction book a month. Since school I haven't touched the stuff but after Bryson's *Short History of Nearly Everything and Diamond's Guns, Germs, and Steel I've paid more attention to the non-fiction available and it looks exciting. I don't really have a...
I thought a Pulitzer Prize winning piece of non-fiction deserved it's own thread and hopefully my search was correct when it said there isn't currently one. Diamond has also written a few other books including 2 I plan on reading if I enjoy Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Third Chimpanzee and...
I suggest having a locked thread for book bargains at the chains or local stores. Provided people can follow a simple format it could be informative and save people money. When you spot a bargain that is available to others, not just a single copy you found on your own, you would post the...
Anyone familiar with them? They're evil. Mostly. A Strip Cover is usually a mass market paperback, sometimes trade paperback, that a book chain has determined no longer has a place in their invemtory. The cover is ripped off and sent to the publisher for credit while the rest of the book is...
Is it possible to be prolific, in the sense that you have tons published, and still be very good? Look at Steel, Clancy, Koontz, King. That's a lot of writing! What about the fantasy writers?! Do some of these people sleep? R.A. Salvatore! Have you seen all that he has published? I've...
I'm not confident the target audience has the capacity to see this thread and use it properly. In the very least it could be helpful to them and may cut down on the people asking for help. Is it possible to sticky the thread? Or do you guys think it's a bad idea and shouldn't be tried at all?
Book and Reader is not an answering service nor a place to find someone to do your homework for you but that doesn't mean you can't find information for your homework here.
Use the search page using the terms you're looking for. Here's an example search looking for Lord of the Flies. Go...
