Dragonlance- please look at this thread!

Out of curiosity, what is it you really dislike the most about them? I've only read a few Dragonlance books and, while I never thought they'd be award winning stories, they were entertaining. It's been a few years but I don't recall them being travesties of contemporary writing :D

    looking for a SciFi war

I do agree with that! :D And even if you don't like Bug wars, go with Starship Troopers. As Wolhay said above, the highlight is on stuff other than the war. It seemed to me that the war with the bugs was kind of secondary whereas in the movie it was the focus. Don't expect the movie when you...

Star Trek TNG novels and Q?

Q In Law was ok, Troi's mom was in it, she kinda kicked Q in the a-hole.... Q Squared brought back Trelayne - he was the guy dressed as Napoleon because he didn't know about the Speed of Light in The Original Series. I liked this one the best out of the Q books. I, Q was pretty lame. The...

    Elizabeth Haydon

I think the Symphony of Ages (I think that's the series name) is exceptional. You really feel like you know the characters and you feel how different they are from the rest of the world. I also really like the depth of relationship of the three main characters once you get into the third book...

    Robert Jordan - New Spring

Well, I read somewhere that he said he needed a minimum of two books to finish it off.... If they're anything like the last couple of books, hopefully that'll be the maximum as well!

    Raymond E. Feist: Magician

Yeah, I really enjoyed the Daughter of the Empire series, I' m not sure if I liked it more than the Magician one or not... However, around.. I think it was book 4, and then Feist kept writing. Even though there wasn't much of a reason for the books, I still enjoyed them and kept reading...

My Favourite Science Fiction Of All Time

Well, I'm going to stick with 5 so I don't have to list ALL the ones I like :D In no particular order: Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card The Forever War - Joe Haldeman The Man Who Folded Himself - David Gerrold Bio of a Space Tyrant series - Piers Anthony Starship Troopers - Robert...

    Anne Bishop

I did like the Black Jewels Trilogy. While not being my all-time favorite magic user, I think that the way Witch was described made her one of the most absolutely powerful magicians I've ever read about. More than Rand al'Thor, more than Zedd, yes... even more than Raistlin ;) The sheer power at...

The Sword of Truth - Terry Goodkind

This is also why I liked The Sword of Truth. In many fantasy novels, you need to have someone who is stupid or ingorant of the world. And by explaining how the world works, or how magic works to that character, the author also explains it to the reader. And so you'll frequently be in the...

The slow lingering death of fantasy writing.

Do you think it's possible that, at least for some, this type of "bloating" is inevitable? All authors have writer's block at some point, they can't think up new ideas for books so they write what they know and continue series on for much longer than they should. Maybe the epic part of Epic...
