My top 2 would consist of 1. Tyrion Lancaster - Songs of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin and the #2 spot would go to - Rincewind - Discworld Books by Terry Pratchet.
Reccomended or not it sounded like a nice change of pace from as you put it "The Sword Swinging Elf" type of fantasy which is always nice. That's why I liked the Discworld series, combine the somewhat unusual fantasy setting with a strong dose of humour. I guess you "could" compare Practhet's...
Personaly like the person above me, Ender books are one of my favourite SciFi books. Although the original and the one with the same story from another characters perspective were a nice look at how events can have 2 different sides. I can probably say the sequals to those books were the more...
