    Any Suggestions?

Can anyone suggest some witty and amusing novels? I need something light  after the last two books I read.

    Reading Frenzy

I've been in a reading frenzy for the past week and have finished three books which is not like me. Usually I'm reading 5 books at once and it takes a month to finish them. I just finished Ahab's Wife by Sena J. Naslund and loved it except I thought it was a bit long. Towards the end I was...

Wilkie Collins: The Woman In White

I just finished reading The Women in White by WIlkie Collins and truly enjoyed it. The characters were well developed and the author kept my interest. I laughed, got sad, and even got mad throughout the read but that's what kept me going. The last part could have been made shorter but its a...

    Great Quote

Be as careful of the books you read as of the company you keep, for your habits and character will be as much influenced by the former as the latter. -Paxton Hood

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events

I just finished watching Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events and it was fabulous! It was great from start to finish, including the closing credits. I'm curious to know how it did at the box office.

    Trouble With This Forum

I've been having some trouble posting lately. Sometimes I am unable to type in the "message" section and can only type in the "Title" section. Then I come back later and all is fine. I've tried posting on other forums I subscribe to and haven't any difficulties with them. Does anyone know...

    Garibaldi

Does anyone know of a good (juicy & tell-all) biography of Giuseppe Garibaldi? It's impossible to find one in the U.S. and Italy has some but I'm not that proficient in Italian.

    Kate Bush

Amazon (U.S.) has both the U.S. and U.K. release of Kt's Aerial. There doesn't seem to be a difference in songs. There is a difference in price: US $25.00 and UK Import $58.00. I would love to have the import but I'm sure it will cost me an arm and a leg after the conversion. Does anyone...

    An American Haunting

An American Haunting is a big stinker. :p I was expecting something well done, like The Others, but was disappointed. I'm assuming that Donald and Sissy badly needed a paycheck otherwise they would have passed on this film.

    I searched and searched....

I've spent an hour on the internet looking for an out of print book. It's an autobiographical novel titled The Eleventh Virgin and the author is Dorothy Day. Ms. Day spent a period of her life, after converting to Catholism, locating and destroying copies so I may have hard time locating...

    V for Vendetta

Great film! That's all I've got to say. You'll have to see it for yourself. P.S. If you're not a leftie or radical than stay home.

Elizabeth Buchan: Revenge Of The Middle-Aged Woman

I'm reading Revenge of the Middle-Aged Woman by Elizabeth Buchan. Despite it's corny title (not quite sure if that's the original UK title) it is a good book. Intelligent, witty, heartwarming and sad at times, but the book it wonderful. I can see that this is one of those books that I will be...

    Charlize and Monster

First off, I have to tell you all that right now my cats are kicking the shite out of each other in frustration because I changed their feeding schedule. I'm such a bad mom. If they don't stop soon I may become the mother of one cat. And now to the reason for my posting: I just finished...

    Twains words/War in Iraq

I read this the other day. It's as if Twain were alive and speaking of the war in Iraq. PEACE WITH HONOR [Mark Twain on the Philippine War] I pray you to pause and consider. Against our traditions we are now entering upon an unjust and trivial war, a war against a helpless people, and for...

    Definition of Reference Books

What is your definition of a reference book? I use it to describe a lot of the books that I read, but am wondering if it is the correct genre.

    Behind the times....

My local PBS picked up EastEnders this year. I was soooooooooooo excited because it hasn't been shown for 3 years, but we're still 5 years behind the UK.

    Bad Remakes

Lord, how I hate bad remakes. I'm not crazy about remakes in general, but I've seen a few that were decent. Now what brings this is all to mind is the viewing of Swept Away with Madonna as the female lead. I love Guy Ritchie films, and I love the original Swept Away (Travolti da un insolito...

    Harry Potter gets thrown aside

After much poo-pooing I broke down and bought the first Harry Potter book. I put it down after 50 pages because I didn't care for it. The films are great but the book didn't excite my mind.
