    Peder's Pond

8/13/2023 . . . and I can hardly believe another three years since my last last post here. The Memoir is making progress oh so slowly. (I have become engrossed in trying to solve the fourth of the Langley cryptograms, with solution now seeming nearer than the end of Memoir.) Now we shall see...

    Recently Finished

Just finished 'Lover of Unreason: Assia Wevill, Sylvia, Plath's Rival and Ted HUghes's Doomed Love.' A necessary and absorbing biography for anyone interested in completing the ill-starred triangular love story of Sylvia Plath, Ted Hughes and Assia Wevill. :star5:

    Reverie: The Shroud

Reverie: The Shroud Dark umber nearly black a cloud of smoke Glimpsed at first far off At the edge of infinite space Seen occasionally, advancing nearer Floating breeze-borne wafting growing Always erasing leaving blank Memories people thoughts knowledge careers Changing shape floating...

    Recently Finished

Just finished The Presidency of Donald J. Trump - A First Historical Assessment by Julian E Zelizer (Editor). A one-book factual narrative of what-all went on during those 4 years (a lot), plus background perspective from previous trends in American politics. Quite condensed to fit everything...

    Covid-19 Vaccine

Cosimah, I'm a little late in responding, so I hope that maybe you are perhaps feeling somewhat better. Years ago, before all this covid, I had a severe case of pneumonia, which eventually cleared up and left me with asthma. I used an inhaler, as you are doing, and after a while the asthma...

    Forty - a poem

Forty Aged forty, feared milestone of life’s middle, Maybe more than half-way gone Maybe all downhill from here Unless one can ski uphill And build on one’s experience, Older and wiser The future coming in view How long? How much longer? Children growing, gawky young teens. Wonder how they’ll...

Suggest me a book that is about Self development.

Imran98, I would definitely suggest "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living," by Dale Carnegie. Although dated by now, it gets its message across through simple stories of people's experiences. But, taken to heart, its ideas can and will change your life. I speak from experience. More...

    Daisies - a poem

Thank you so much, KariBernadine, for a very kind reply. :) You lift my own spirits and encourage me to plug on, continuing to try to get thoughts onto the page. Most sincerely Peder

    Daisies - a poem

j10976m, Many thanks for reading my poem and for your thoughtful comment: "I believe that chaos cannot remain in place of Light as, Light is ever present. So despite what might seem dismal, Light always outshines!" Yes, indeed, that is the hope -- yours and mine. However, just at the moment...

    Covid-19 Vaccine

I'm with you entirely on that sentiment. But I'm afraid my optimism has faded to nil. I'm resigned to the thought that maybe we are looking at what will be the 'new normal' in this sparkling Information Age which is upon us. I don't know where these people come from, or where they got their...

Yes, indeed! Now, there's a novel twist -- a twist upon a twist, if I recall correctly. Waiting for her next.

    Covid-19 Vaccine

As the other half of pontalba (her husband) I am glad she has a very cautious view of the pandemic. I am in the highest risk group for any and all variants, under any and all conditions, and I sincerely appreciate her scrupulous attention to trying to keep us alive. She has succeeded so far...

    Daisies - a poem

Daisies The daisies of the field grow and have their day, then perish – most of them – without their chance for lauds at their transitory beauty and existence. But such metaphors are inadequate for the reality, of a world gone upside-down where false-fact replaces actual truth and urges human...

    Peder's Pond

8/13/2020 Just a news note: I can't believe 5 years have gone by since my last post here! I can believe, however, that my attention lately has been diverted to other things! Recently, my main attention has been focused on writing my memoirs, hopefully for the benefit of my children. The current...

    Grand Tour - a poem

Grand Tour Come my Darling tonight with me we'll open the future be on our way to vistas unseen wonders unheard, 'laddin's 'lectronic screen our magic carpet 'round the Earth past the planets through all space billions of years through the galaxies to the Edge and then...

Éclair, I agree with you there. The Likeness is rather contrived, as if forcing the genre/formula. But I think every author is entitled to a flat one (or two). So I read on, ever hopeful. Peder

How Long till you finish a book?

Maybe 4 - 5 days when I'm really interested, otherwise a couple weeks. If not then, it tends to get buried and never finished. Last year, I only finished about 25, for example.
