Having really enjoyed 'Life of Pi' I've just read his second book 'Beatrice and Virgil.'
I loved it (except for small moments) it's original, quirky and thoroughly memorable. Yet it's had the most dreadful reviews in the history of publishing I would think.
Why Yann Martel’s Beatrice and...
I've tried reading a few but failed on most. I think 'Life of Pi' and 'White Tiger' are the only two I've enjoyed.
I fell asleep reading 'Amsterdam' yesterday - although it started well.
What is it all about?
'White Tiger' was poo-poo'ed by the snobby judges. No doubt because it's...
He's one of my favourite authors and I decided he needed his own thread as I'm just finishing 'Pratt a Manger,' the last in his series about the life of Henry Pratt.
One or two of you have read him, but more of you should, he's great.

I wouldn't have dreamt of trying a graphic novel, but Tamara Drew took my eye and I love it.

any one else read it?
I find it impossible to understand some actors in American films these days.
I need sub-titles.

Is it regional accents, or just general sloppiness? Although I can understand the old films with a...
I don't know if the poll will come out - but I did try.:whistling:
So, which do you prefer? I used to think they were the same thing until I tried Vegemite. Yummy, yummy stuff I'm now addicted to it.

I haven't read the book but it was on TV last night. A drama adapted by Anthony Minghella and Richard Curtis. I loved it.:D
Anyone see it? A series is staring next year based on the other books.
I'm getting ready to retire and wanting to see as many interesting things in Britain as I can before dropping off my perch.
I've googled for answers, but they are too touristy. Anyone know of any which aren't?
Which famous writer (living or dead) would you like to know, and how ie. as a friend, neighbour, confidente or other?
What would you talk about? How would you try to help them? What would they bring into your life?
I've just read 'Murder Most Fab' and I loved it. Funny, entertaining, unputdownable and some great characters, especially his mother!
I enjoyed 'A Young Man's Passage' too, but it looks to me like he's got a great future as a novelist.
What a clever and beautiful man he is! Some folk have...
I'm just reading his first wife Wendy's book. I don't like her much - I'm probably just jealous - but I'm finding it very interesting. I shall read the other biography (Harry Thompson's) again when I've finished.
Are there any other Peter Cook lovers here?
I lurve this series.:D
Anyone else? Love it or hate it - you must have seen it. Want to discuss?
Stewie is great, wonderful, handsome, brilliant, witty, clever and all the other flattering adjectives which I can't be bothered to type - not even for Stewie.
My thoughts are that he's a boring writer who used to work in advertising, hence he's good at getting himself free publicity. Free to himself that is, he's cost our country a fortune protecting him from the fatwa!
Allso, if he cared at alll - he wouldn't accept it. If the threats are carried...
