I just read the first one Stormfront so far. At first I thought it was just really average but in the end I did wind up enjoying it. I think it helps that as Dresden says he may be a wizard but is far from all powerful. He can be a formidable opponent but it's also possible to catch him off...
I thought it was an interesting alternative to Underworld. As for explanation I didn't think it was to bad. I accepted the Others having powers just like the Mutants in XMen have powers.
Also the fact that this is just the first movie of a series means that more may be explaned with more...
It may be that or maybe some authors have built up such an epic that they can't figure out how to end it. That's how I felt about Wheel of Time. The last books I read seemed to have a few big major key events with lots of filler story leading up to them.
Someone loaned me a book called The Day After Roswell by Philip Corso. The actual story was okay, but the writing style was incredibly dry. I got about half way through and just gave up and returned it.
Another one I almost quit but somehow pushed on and finished was Stephen King's Insomnia.
There is a handfull of his stuff that I think is great and probably just as much that I didn't like. I guess the core of his stuff regarding "the Old Ones" or strange ancient cosmic alien being The Call of Cthulhu wich I did enjoy. The Whisperer in Darkness seemed mostly average but was saved...
