Terry Pratchett
Another vote here for the City Watch books, particularly the first two or three. They really are laugh out loud books and the characters seem so real. I've read all the Discworld books and the later books that aren't strictly speaking Discworld - such as those with Tiffany Aching and the Wee...- katie
