    McEwan Why is McEwan always on the booker longlist? Sure, he's usually a good writer, but all his books are not that good (Amsterdam for one). However, it was a surprise to see all these new names on the list this year. Unfortunately I haven't read any as yet.

    Oh just about anywhere For me it depends so much of what kind of book it is. A book in swedish I get at the local bookstore. The ones in english I will basically get from the cheapest place. But the books in Italian I usually borrow from the library since they're so hard to come by at a decent...

    Can anyone compile a small list of classics that every reader should read?

    I see that others already have recommended Steinbeck and Marquez (they are great), but nobody has yet mentioned Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte! It's definately one of my favorites when it comes to classics! :)

    Agreeing with Ronny It's been a while since I read the book so I can't really remember any details, but it was a really great read and it seems like a book with lots of topics to discuss, if I only could remember them... I don't remember the name Chapter Eleven either... :o

    Diana Wynne Jones

    Howl's Moving Castle is a great read! I haven't seen the film yet but it looks promising!:D Apart from that one I have only read Charmed Life of the Chrestomanci series and I liked that one as well. There are three more of her books in my TBR-heap, so I really recommend her!:p
