In regards to making lists, the reason why I keep a list is because I am a list maniac! I love making lists of everything and so I make lists of books. It is also helpful when I am at the bookstore or library to have a list of books to look at, but mostly, I make a list because I enjoy doing...
I had to read it in eighth grade and hated it. I could hardly get through a page. I had to get it on tape to get through it. When I finished it, it had not made an impact on me at all.
To be fair, though, maybe it was just because I was fairly young. Maybe I would like it if I read it...
I use an excel spreadsheet which I often upload to: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/ because it makes it look pretty :D. I also have probably about 60 books sitting in my bookshelf. I'm trying to get through these books before I buy more, but when I have the urge to go to a book sale and...
This year I read:
(The scoring system many of you used works well, so I will use it, too)
East of Eden by John Steinbeck:D
Persuasion by Jane Austen:)
The Penultimate Peril by Lemony Snicket:D
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier:)
The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera:D
The...
From reading this thread, I realize how much being forced to read a book can make people despise that book. I had to read Fahrenheit 451 and To Kill a Mockingbird for school and I hated both of them. The only book ever assigned for school that I actually LOVED was The Giver. Most of the...
I just have one bookcase with 6 shelves. I have so many different things in it though (sheet music, plays, DVDs, old yearbooks, photo albums etc), so it is really not enough room. I guess as I get more books, I will transfer the books that I want to keep, but aren't my favorites to some shelf...
I think it's perfectly fine to read a book you've broght with you in a borders or B&N. Especially if it's a worn book and wouldn't be mistaken as something new off the rack.
I am going to do a speed type of the many un-read books on my shelf. It is depressing because I am taking forever trucking through East of Eden (I do love it, though) while I look at all the marvelous books on my shelf! It is unfair that I can't read fast enough!:p
Okay, my list:
The End...
These books I plan on reading...sometime:
American Pastoral
An American Tragedy
Animal Farm
Appointment in Samarra
Atonement
The Catcher in the Rye
Gone With the Wind
The Grapes of Wrath
A Death in the Family
Lolita
Lord of the Flies
Loving
To the Lighthouse
Mrs. Dalloway...
I think I'm going to have to say:
Mick from "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter"--I don't know why, actually, she is just a really cool gal
Stargirl from "Stargirl"--a fearless girl, absolutely free and confident, and also so kind
and
Jane Eyre from "Jane Eyre"--I suppose I admire her
They are not the BEST books I have ever read, but I have gotten the most enjoyment out of reading "A Series of Unfortunate Events" out of all the books I have read. I am literally sad that I only have one more book left in the series. It is a wonderful, brilliant, whimsical journey of a...
From most often to least often, I: Snatch books from my mom and grandmother, order them used online, get them at yard sales and used book sales, and as a special treat I sometimes buy from Borders or B&N. I hardly ever borrow from the library, just because I forget to bring them back. But...
If I somehow was magically able to finish all the books I want to read, then maybe I would re-read my favorites, but I don't think that is possible:) .
