REUNION SCENE SPOILER
I'm told the above link provided by phil t no longer works and I've been asked for the reply I received from the publisher, so I'm posting it here in its entirety:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Reunion Scene from THE PRINCESS BRIDE
by William...
Brilliant!! :)
Phil, you're a STAR!! :)
Note to all: I did request a copy of the reunion scene. LOLOLOLOL I"m in creases here. :D But I won't post any spoilers. If anyone wants to read it, click on the link Phil provided and follow the instructions. They will respond immediately...
Thanks, Phil, for the info.
I wonder if it would be possible to get the reunion scene from Goldman himself? I'm sure he must get mail -- probably forwarded by his publisher. Couldn't hurt to try.
Will share the joy if I get a response. :D ;)
No, no! Don't scrap the Book of the Month. I agree with murphyz that A Christmas Carol is a great choice for December. Also something scary for October -- classics like Dracula, Frankenstein or Jane Eyre are always appealing to me. Something Wicked This Way Comes is also a good choice (loved...
Note to murphyz and anyone else who is interested: my letter to Hiram Haydn at Harcourt Brace Jovanovich (see above) was returned as "undeliverable." I can only assume that Hiram Haydn is a ficticious character (as is Morganstern) or he is no longer with the publishing house (died, retired, etc.).
It was a dark and stormy night ... "
Actually, the first line in its entirety reads, "It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents--except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies)...
Well ... they started out roughly grouped by type then by author, but I've moved so many times they're now in glorious disarray. I have three book cases (sold two when I moved) so the books that are currently on my shelves are the ones I like the best or use most often. The rest are in boxes.
I would be willing to help to whatever extent I can. I'm not quite sure how it all works yet (I'm very new to the Book Forum and also something of a techie moron).
To start, I could provide a list of authors and/or titles for the database. Do I just e-mail or PM the list to you?
Ell has posted two sites and here's a few more for you, Aqua:
http://www.bibliomania.com
http://digital.library.upenn.edu/books
http://www.pagebypagebooks.com/title.html#A
and on this one you can hear the authors read from their own works: http://wiredforbooks.org
this site is...
I buy hardcovers only when they're on sale or used. I tend to buy most of my books at charity shops. On rare occasions I will splurge for a special book to grace my bookshelves. In addition to being easier on my purse, I find paperbacks are more convenient for traveling and lounging.
Fifty dollars?! My goodness! I don't blame you for not buying it, Knowze. It must have gold-leaf pages or something. I can't imagine paying fifty dollars for a book. Last weekend, I went to our local Salvation Army thrift store (charity shop) and came home with armloads of books at 50 cents...
I'm very fond of old movies, so a number of them would be on my list of favourites:
The Adventures of Robin Hood (my all-time favourite movie ever)
Casablanca
The Bishop's Wife
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Arsenic and Old Lace
The Scarlet Pimpernel (with Leslie Howard)
Favourite...
I like watching movies, listening to music (and going to concerts when I can afford it!), gardening, scrapbooking, cross-stitch, and spending time with my family and pets (two dogs and two cats).
Ah. Thanks for the clarification. I loved the film, The Commitments -- didn't know there was a book. So now I'll have to add three books to my list. :)
