A Brief Word On Tags

Since the forum was upgraded recently, you've probably noticed - or may not have - the new tag feature. When creating threads or replying to them, there's a small box under the posting section marked 'Tags'.

By adding tags, you bring your own way of thinking to the forum as you can label threads with descriptive terms that you deem appropriate. Have a book like George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, then you can add tags (separated by a comma) such as dystopian, george orwell, sci-fi, futuristic, english or whatever other term you think suits.

The limit is twenty-five tags per thread, although it's by no means a target, and this should be sufficient to describe the forum's threads. So, what does this do? Well, the forum then compiles all the tags and makes a tag cloud showing the most popular tags. It also allows you to search on the tags.

Say you want to find that dystopian book but you can't remember the title By clicking on any of the tags in the tag cloud (by going to Search -> Search Tags) you can then find the relevant tag and click on it - it will then return all threads tagged dystopian. Or tagged with whatever you search on.

So, if you are reading a thread, take a second to tag it. The more people tag threads in their own unique way the more helpful it can be as a search tool.

I noticed that regular members can only post two tags per thread.

It's an interesting feature and will come in handy here. Thanks for the crash course Stewart.
