I suspect that most French members will have obtained thier knowledge of history from books rather than newpaper opinion pieces. As such they'll probably have studied battles like Bouvines, Formigny, Marengo and Austerlitz at school, and know that their country has arguably the most impressive military record of any nation, if indeed that's something to be impressed about. So I doubt they'll be too bothered.
