About 25 years ago I read a book that still freaks me out when I think of it, but I cannot remember the title. It started out with a man and a woman at an isolated cabin in the woods. They arrive, the cabin is nice, well cared for and even has a wood box full of wood. They start a fire in the fireplace and fall asleep. One of them, the husband I think, wakes up later to find his wife gone. The cabin is nothing like it was when he fell asleep. It is filthy and the furniture is broken. There is no fire in the fireplace and the wood box is empty. Is this book The Guardian by Jeffry Konvitz?
