Coleman Luck: Angel Fall

This is the first book from Coleman Luck, but there is nothing in its writing to suggest that he hasn’t been publishing novels for decades. It is a hugely accomplished work. At times, it’s a difficult read. Even in the realms of the fantasy world, Boreth, the horrors of real life are stark and unflinching on the page. While the book is profoundly spiritual, however, it is never preachy. It is challenging without being sensationalistic. If you allow Coleman to take your hand, he will lead you through the dark places, for the story is a journey, a quest for redemption. The motives of the characters are rarely transparent, and so much of the drama stems from never really knowing who to trust. In this way, Angel Fall portrays the journey of life: and even though it is set against a whimsical world of fantastic beings and extraordinary adventures, the message within this journey is clear. Expect redemption, expect joy – and rejoice in them. This is truly a remarkable book: a great tale, beautifully written.

This review is based on a reading of the advanced publishers proof. I would be interested to hear from anyone else who was privileged enough to obtain an advance copy.
