Elizabeth Garner: The Ingenious Edgar Jones

Has anyone else read this novel? I just finished it. In fact, the last 50 pages I couldn't put it down, I wanted so much to know the ending. It left me wanting to discuss.

Is Edgar a misunderstood child or is he truly a criminal? Did he attempt to soar too high and rise above his station, or was society holding him down from his true abilities? Did his parents do right to put him in the world; should they have done it sooner or later? Why did Garner include the fantasy at the end of the book, when there is very little of it any where else in the story? Why did Garner give Edgar a furry spine - was his unwillingness to talk and his character not enough to make him strange, was she trying to show that he was not fully human, or was there something else in altogether?
