Gustave Flaubert

Funny, but though Flaubert's "Madame Bovary" was chosen as the book of the month in April 2008 discussion, I did not find his entry here in "Author Discussion" sub-forum.

However, I was interested in his other novel, Salammbô.

Had anybody read it?

Here is a weird thing from wikipedia:

Adaptations
Music
Salammbô, an unfinished opera by Modest Mussorgsky (1863-66)
Salammbô, another unfinished opera by Sergei Rachmaninoff
Salammbô, an opera composed by Ernest Reyer based on Flaubert's novel (1890).

TWO
unfinished operas?! That's REALLY weird! Which novel can beat that?

I started Salammbo but got lost midway because of the many names,a bit like Silmarion of Tolkien. My father and brother insiste it is his best work.
I loved l'éducation sentimental ,and read it twice. A simple heart is also good.
