Michael Russnow got his start by fearlessly calling Earl Hamner, creator and narrator of "The Waltons" and urged him to give him and his then-partner Tony Kayden a shot. It was a true Hollywood story, as the series was about a wannabe writer, and Michael and Tony were hired to pen three episodes and joined the Writers Guild of America West. After writing for "The Streets of San Francisco" and "Little House on the Prairie," Michael and Tony went their separate ways. Michael continued an eclectic career, branching into comedy with classics such as "Barney Miller" and "Family Ties." He then moved into the soap arena, working on "Dynasty," "Knots Landing" and "Santa Barbara." Michael has also worked abroad, mostly in Europe, writing screenplay stories and TV Formats in addition to his role as story editor on "Barátok közt," the first prime-time soap opera in Hungary. In 2005, he co-wrote a TV pilot with German series star Andreas Stenschke (Ulli Prozeski on "Verbotene Liebe" and Ben Merker on "Die Anrheiner"). A contributor to the renowned on-line journal "The Huffington Post," he has recently embarked upon a long-desired dream to pursue acting in addition to his career as a writer. Consequently, in 2011 he joined AFTRA and in the following year became a member of the merged actors union SAG-AFTRA. He was also twice elected as Member of the Board of Directors of the Writers Guild of America West and recently received a congratulatory certificate from the Guild regarding his participation as a writer on "Barney Miller" and "Family Ties," which were named on the WGA's list of 101 Best Written TV Series.
