The Lewis Chessmen is part of the British Museum's Objects in Focus series and gives a brief overview of the discovery, manufacture, and historical context of the Lewis Chessmen as well as a discussion of the role of chess in 12th century Europe.

The Lewis Chessmen are a group of 78 chess pieces discovered in 1831 on the Isle of Lewis and are made from walrus ivory and whale teeth. They are believed to have been made in Norway during the 12th Century.

Quick and informative read.
