Has anyone been watching this excellent series? The fourth episode is on tonight (Mon) at 9 pm on BBC1.
It's about a present-day policeman who is in a car accident and wakes up in 1973, when he would have been four years old! He's still a copper, but things were very different back then. He has to deal with his colleagues' racist, sexist attitudes and they're also not averse to taking a few back-handers. Our hero tries to solve the crimes without the benefit of modern forensics and technology, whilst trying to keep true to his ideals.
His "guvnor" is straight out of The Sweeney and has a very straight-forward approach to crime solving ("The one who speaks first did it!") There's a lot of humour and some brilliant acting from the leads. Think The Sweeney crossed with Back to the Future, and with a smidgeon of The Singing Detective. Most surreal moment so far: the girl from the test card (you know, the one where she's holding a clown doll in front of the noughts and crosses blackboard) appears in our hero's room and talks to him. The thing is, both the lead character and the viewers don't know if (a) he really has gone back to 1973, (b) he's in a coma or (c) he's gone insane.
This is a top class programme - I can't recommend it enough.
