Looking for a book but cant remember the name or author

Im new to this ,
Can anyone please help me, I was 15years when i read my 1st novel and i remember the story but forgot the name .
It was about a young girl that had a brain tumor , who fell inlove with a older doctor, who refuses to love her.
She persists until he does love her nly to find out she is ill.
Its set in a old american scene
