Longshot....
looking for a book I read about 15 years ago. I do not know author or tittle , all I remember is the following.....
wife and child taken from village during raid he follows runs out of food in desert has to eat horse gets taken has to ride in some sort of cart with many other people gets taken to work in mine for years. The memory is very vague but I remember it being a great read.
May have had a fantasy type twist towards the end.
Hoping it may ring a bell for someone.
