I read this book in the late 80’s or early 90’s, and I can’t remember the title or author.
It’s about a Mexican bruja or curandera (witch or herbal doctor). Her aunt trained her to visit the otherworld. When she was in the otherworld, she met some ‘volcano dogs’??? that sang to her (in Spanish), “We are not dogs. We are not coyotes. We are ‘volcano dogs’???” She agreed to provide them a home, but she forgot about them until the end of the book, when they helped her defeat a monster.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?
