Hello I'm a newbie and need help in tracking down a fantasy novel i read about 10 years ago..
The main character of this book is a young female apprentice witch. For some obscure reason she is taken along with these other girls to this castle somewhere because the lords there need wives (there may be a woman shortage or something), and they have to choose their wife by ballot or something like that. Before the young witch leaves her teachers cottage, she casts a spell on herself to make herself look ugly so she won't be chosen...
So when they get to the castle the most arrogant lord winds up having to marry the young witch, but she runs away or something and ends up in this forest somewhere...there are people called the Guardians who hate iron and that's about all i can dredge up from memory..
