I'm looking for a Children's Book is at least fifteen years old, probably a lot more.
The plot: A father goes off (to war, for some reason) and has to leave his kids behind with their mother / housekeeper. He leaves a game for them, it's a game he made that involves finding clues that lead to other clues that lead to other ones.... A treasure hunt. The first clue was left in the mother / housekeeper's apron. This was lost in the wash or something. The kids are sad. The dad dies. The kids never discover the game or any clues. Then, one day, by pure happenstance, a feather falls out of an Indian Headdress with a clue. This is the clue that would've been led to from the one in the apron. And, from there, they follow the clues that their now-dead father left for them to some ultimate prize.
Thanks in advance!
