"Never you mind Casey" teddy bear book

I'm looking for a book that I read as a child, back in the mid-1980s, about a little boy named Casey (sp?) that had a teddy bear. His bear got dirty and had to be washed and hung on the line to dry. His grandfather said "Never you mind Casey" when the little boy was upset about the bear getting dirty. I can't remember how or why he got dirty. I assume it was published some time between 1983 and 1988. I have a two year old daughter and I think she would really love to read this book, but I can't remember the title (and neither can any of the librarians at my local library!). Any thoughts???
