Rose Madder by Stephen King

Just finished Stephen King's Rose Madder, for about the fifth time! Apparently, it's not one of most people's fave Kings, but I like it, maybe in part because I've always been fascinated by creepy paintings. How cool would it be to enter another world by going through a painting?! (Of course that depends entirely on what it is a painting of! :) )

I also liked the ties to mythology, but what appealed to me the most was Rosie's journey from timid, beaten wife to a woman in control of her own life, who finds the strength to deal with her psychopathic husband and carve out a new life for herself. I thought King wrote Rosie's character very well - he made a good job of getting into the female psyche, but I have always thought that characterisation is one of King's strengths.
