The Auel series in movies...?

The only Auel book on film is Clan of the Cave Bear.

Does anyone know if the rest of EC books will be produced for film?

When was this film released?

I purchased Clan of the Cave Bear yesterday so must read it soon, would be interested in seeing the film after I have done so.

Sorry that this is not an answer to your question.

The book ...... excellent :)

The movie ...... erm, pap really :p

To answer the original question, i think Auel was so put off by the first movie that she vetoed allowing the others to be filmed, although never rule out a turn around once the last (next, i think) book is out and the royalties arent flooding in anymore

Question: Did Auel write the screen play for the movie?

What problem(s) did the author have regarding the movie?

I dont think Jean Auel had much to do with the movie - it took the route of being 'based' on the book rather than actually following the plot closely, which was why it was such a disappointment to many of the fans - plus did i mention it was terrible ;)

phil_t, do you know why she wasn't involved in the making of the movie?

Also, have you heard anything in regards to future film projects for the series?

Well, it seems that Jean Auel had simply sold the rights to the first book, and the film company made the film without much (if any) input from her.

She has subsequently bought the rights to the book back, and i found rumours that it was going to be made as a TV mini-series some time after the sixth book is published (although goodness knows when that will be as it took 11 years for the last one!!)

I read that the last book in the EC series was completed about the time the fifth novel was announced.

I am glad that the series will be made into movies. Thanks for the news!

Hmmm... I wonder whether or not it will be turned into a porn movie then... It would certainly be interesting, pre-historic pornography, but still; I could certainly do without it.

Well, apparantly Jean Auel did the research for the fifth and sixth book together, so hopefully the wait wont be quite as long for the sixth book :)

Take away the sex and what have you got?

Agreed! Valley of the Horses was terrific until Yondalar showed up--I'm sure I'm in the minority in that opinion, and the series has always carried a strong savage romance taint to my mind ...Mammoth Hunters was intriguing in details but again such a soap opera! I haven't bothered with the new one...

I've never followed up on my curiousity on what actually went wrong with the movie version because the reviews were so devastating.
