The Chamber of Secrets

Hey, I'm Crimson Eliot, new to the Book Forum, so excuse me for my novice skills.

I do have a question about the second book in the Harry Potter series; The Chamber of Secrets.

Now I know that in the old days, Godric Gryffindor, Salazar Slytherin, Helga Hufflepuff, and Rowena Rawenclaff established Hogwarts, while Salazar in secret built a chamber which would later on be the layer of the Basilisk. Now here is my question: What/Where are the secrets?

What I mean is that its a chamber, but why is it the chamber of SECRETS? Is it because Salazar secretly built it or what?

I guess that the secret would be its existance, location, its purpose, who could open it, and what it contains.
