Ghostly legend comes to life – Bella Sheep Head
‘The Legend of Bella Sheep Head, a story of survival and a witch’s curse.’ Is a paranormal fantasy book written by author Michael Tear. The book is set in Cumbria in the 17 th Century and the legend is familiar to people in the area. The book has taken six months to write, mostly as a hobby and as an interest in local mythology and folklore. This exciting legend has been developed into a full sized novel based upon the few lines of story and myth which I have heard over the years. A trip, wandering around Flimby Woods in the dark one night with some friends was even a part of the research for the book; a spooky experience which helped to get into the mind-set of the book characters who lived in the woods.
The story depicts a young girl’s actions which lead to the death of her mother’s midwife, as her sister is born in to an uncaring world.
In a time of poverty, war and witchcraft hysteria, accusations are aimed at the mother of the two helpless sisters.
The pair become orphaned and left to fend for themselves, after tragic events coincide with the birth of the younger sister.
This supernatural story, based on a real-life legend, follows the lives of the two girls learning to survive in their woodland home, on the edge of the Lake District.
Against all odds and facing the hostility of local villagers in 17th Century England, the reclusive siblings forge a life without the people who hate them.
In a magical world of sorcery, witchcraft, demons, mythology and conflict, the girls grow up and struggle for acceptance in this paranormal fantasy tale.
One sister is destined to become a legend as the other seeks revenge and pronounces her curse on all those who wronged her.
