A serial killer, depressed and overcome with distress and misery, scours about the streets, slaying apparently random people at random places – it seems, no one sees any connection between the deaths, and most of them are qualified as natural ones, leaving the perpetrator free and uninterrupted. Living alone in an old huge apartment, tormented with footsteps strolling to and fro over a long corridor at night, the killer has constructed a twisted numerology-based theory, a superstitious mystical teaching to guide the adherent out of misery and suffering – but, as it turns out to really work, the effect appears to be far from expected.

A wannabe punk rocker, the singer of a DIY garage band, the members of which can’t even decide on whom to plagiarize from, gets more and more disappointed in his own band, the punk scene and music in general. Working on a low-paid job and abusing alcohol, he feels wasting away slowly, though it’s not an easy thing to admit. As he meditates on the memories of his short lifetime, he points out a sequence of strange events and perceptions, which, he comes to believe, indicate a certain kind of destiny for him. As one more weird thing happens, stranger than everything before, he realizes, overnight, what he was born for.

Having no need in socializing, a young school teacher of English language tends to lead a reclusive lifestyle, spending most of his free time online, watching anime, reading manga and visual novels, and discussing them on imageboards with anonymous users he never gets along with. One day, a teenage student he gives private tuition to finds out about his anime affection, and opens up to him as a fan of his favorite manga title, an old and little known one. As they develop a habit of talking anime after each lesson, the teacher finds a lot in common with her, despite the age difference. Soon, their relationship seems to take a romantic turn.
