In 2012, I was diagnosed with viral meningitis (the least dangerous type to get from what I have read), but directly or indirectly, my spinal cord became damaged and among other issues, I lost the ability to walk. I wasn't guaranteed to walk again, and if I did, it would probably take a couple of years. However, within 6 months, I was walking with a quad cane, and within 15 months, pretty much without a cane.
I wrote a book about my recovery process: Toe Up to 10K, A Journey of Recovery from Spinal Cord Injury
