One of the best books I have read was about a young woman who sailed from England to India (I think). There was a doctor aboard the ship and they became close. She ended up being a nurse for this doctor, and she became pregnant by him. She gave birth to twins, one of which became a doctor. Both twins eventually ended up in the US.
