Monographs are research books on very specific subjects. I had to read quite a few of these through college, some I hated others I really enjoyed. History is a reading intensive degree.
Here are some of the ones I have read.
Apostles of Disunion: Southern Secession Commissioners and the Causes of the Civil War - Charles B. Dew
American Indians, American Justice - Vine Deloria, Jr. & Clifford M. Lytle
Mexican Labor & World War II: Braceros in the Pacific Northwest, 1942-1947 -Erasmo Gamboa
Irrigated Eden: The Making of an Agricultural Landscape in the American West -Mark Fiege
Astoria & Empire - James P. Ronda
Black Slaveowners: Free Black Slave Masters in South Carolina, 1790-1860 - Larry Koger
Rubbish! The Archeology of Garbage - William Rathje and Cullen Murphy
