I've not read "The Gold Bug".
However, I did recently visit the Poe House in Philadelphia were Edgar Allan Poe lived briefly. Very interesting tour. Learned a bit about how Rufus Griswold sought to ruin Poe's reputation. Poe was brilliant, but Griswold's allegations of his drug use and other character flaws were lies.
