Bear v shark is the first book written by Christopher Bachelder. Basically, someone has come up with the question - who would win a fight between a bear and a shark. This idea was sold for millions of dollars, everyone takes sides and they market the sh!t out of it. It's basically one big dig at the tv culture and everything that goes with it. Very very funny and very very different. Well worth a look. bear v shark

Sceptism inc was written by Bo Fowler. The narrator is a shopping trolley who tells the story of Edgar Melroy. Edgar takes metaphysical bets and ends up being the richest man ever to live. Edgar's goal is to take down organised religions by offering them the chance to give all their money to him. Once again, very funny and as bizarre as it gets!

Good to see satire is alive and well.

You might like Douglas Coupland. A bit less farcical, but I enjoy it.

Ummmm... I'm not sure if this would be up your alley, but Sir Appropos of Nothing by Peter David (and the other two books in this trilogy, Woad to Wuin and Tong Lashing) are full of satire. Appropos is the son of a tavern whore who was raped by a Knight, whose main aim in life (outside of finding and killing his dad) is to stay as far away from trouble and adventure at all costs. The whole series is about how he fails miserably every time he turns around. Very commical, and very well written, with some of "twistiness" (how's THAT for a new word LOL) that may be silimar to the Edgar Melroy character.

Thanks for those suggestions. Just got excited and ordered a copy of Hey Nostradamus! by Mr Coupland along with Sir Apropos of Nothing. :D

I picked it up a few months back and said to myself that I'd come back to it when I got through the backlog. Usual stuff happens and I forgot about it.

Thanks for the reminder.
