Anyone have a website?

I know Ell has a site about books (very good BTW). Anyone else? If so what do you use to create it? Where do you host it?

Darren.

I don't have a website on-line, but I do have one at home that helps me keep organized... It's just a combination of ASP and HTML, nothing fancy or anything. :) (I use First Page btw)

I'm definitely low-tech. Just use Notepad and HTML.

I've tried Dreamweaver, but nothing I've done has made it's way onto the site yet. Trying to learn CSS and Java script, but still at the dabbling around stage. Don't seem to have enought time to get it all together! :(

Hey, one of these days you may open my site and be totally surprised by the changes - just don't hold your breath :D

My site

well yes ........... and no

I've been involved for a while with a small team managing a business site however it's the big, corporate, information delivery type thing as is, by necessity, pretty boring really. Dreamweaver/Fireworks for the main bits with my own hand coding in AceHTML Pro v 5.0 (which BTW I can thoroughly recommend as an HTML Editor).

Corporate Site

Ell, you don't need something as high-end as Dreamweaver to take the load out of coding and still leave you in control. Try AceHTMLPro which is both good & cheap or 1stPage2000 which is both good and free.

I've owned the domain name Beveridgeonline for some time and keep meaning to get around to creating a family portal for it but well time just whizzes by. I would like to get more involved in the whole 'Web Design' thing but never seem to find the time or a cause.

I think that's one of the big things. I used to dabble, but only started to take things seriously when I launced The Book Forum. A lot of the stuff on here evolves as I learn new things. Unfortunately I haven't kept the first "drafts" of the site, but it's certainly changed considerably (for the better, I hope :) )

TextPad is a much better alternative to Notepad. I was so impressed with it that I paid the shareware fee. I use it to edit the PHP code that controls large portions of this site.

I do have a website and have had for the past four years. Those of you familiar with the 'weblog' phenomenon won't need further explanation, but for those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, I pretty much have a daily diary where I post my thoughts on particular topics for the public to enjoy.
I use www.blogger.com to publish my site, but do all the coding with Notepad and upload with Smart FTP.

I have a web site where I write book reviews and propose literary quizzes. I use mainly Frontpage.

Dave B,

Thanks for the links. I've downloaded 1stPage2000 and will give it a try when I get the chance.

My son has Dreamweaver and LOVES it. Hence he's trying to talk me into using it. Lots of bells 'n whistles, but I haven't really had enough time to explore it in depth. And as you said, probably not really necessary for my kind of site.

Well I have several sites:

A site about the living area (don't know how to explain in English) Lyckansberg in Sweden. It is hosted by NetAtOnce in Sweden. The pages are simple, small changes are made in Notepad, larger updates with Sausage HotDog.

A site about me at http://www.gremminger.de . Simple pages maintained in Notepad and filed in HotDog.

A site about user manuals - http://www.manual-forum.de . Those pages are rather complex, written in PHP. For small changes such as MODs I use Notepad, larger changes are made in PHPEdit.
There are several sub-URLs such as forum.manual-forum.de and forum2.manual-forum.de and shop.manual-forum.de and adserver.manual-forum.de and holger.manual-forum.de

The pages above are hosted by hosteurope.de . They have a great offer with 15 GB traffic, 50 MB space, CGI, PHP, mySQL, mail and and and. Check out the server-specs at http://www.manual-forum.de/phpinfo/phpinfo.php

Then there is http://www.heavy-pixels.de that I do not maintain any more ... I think I redirected it to one of the above.

I have FrontPage, Dreamweaver & Co installed, but they produce to much code around the core HTML that I do not want.
I know, Notepad is a little to simple for a complex page, but I started the HTML coding 1996-1997 and in a way I got stuck to Notepad.

Ell, this is a good site for learning CSS. It's a very powerful tool which I use on this site. If you want to change the font of eg the <p> tag, you can do so by editing one file rather than changing loads of HTML in many different files.

Thanks Darren. I've bookmarked the site and will take a better look at it later.
