During a class (YEARS ago), a professor brought a bunch of children's books to discuss. One of the stories has stuck with me though I cannot remeber the title. Can anyone help?
This is what I remeber:
An emporer needs to find someone to take his place since he has no son. He gives all the children in the kingdom seeds to grow plants. Whoever has the plant that please him most will be his heir.
All the children return on the designated day with a various array of plants to show the ruler. One little boy is very embarrassed because his was the only plant that did not grow, but his pot pleases the emporer the most. The emporer had given all the children seeds that would not grow. Only the little boy showed himself to be honest and brave enough to face the consequences, so he was chosen.
Has anyone read this before?
I would love to find the title and author of this story.
Thanks,
Mary Lou
