Mr.Darcy and Rhett Butler are great literay characters but which one do you prefer?????

personally i'm a Mr. Darcy fan but my sister loves Rhett!

WHO DO YOU LIKE BEST??

Uhm.... never read anything of both of them but I saw them on TV. Judging from the movies I'd prefer Matthew Macfadyen over Clark Gable anytime.

Both are different characters and I have a hard time to compare them.

Maybe it's time to pick up the books ? !

Rhett Butler for sure. No literary characters can compare to Scarlett O'Hara or Rhett Butler, in my mind. And although I read the book before I saw the movie, the two were so wonderfully cast that Vivienne Leigh and Clark Gable will forever be Scarlett and Rhett.

Mr. Darcy, I don't think it is possble to read the book and not fall for him. However, Rhett is great on his own as well. I have some ethic issues with all Scarlett needed was a bog strong man take her up stairs...

Which book exactly ? As far as I know there is the one by Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice, then there is this whole Darcy series: Darcy's Story, Darcy's Daughters, Diary, Darcy & Elizabeth and so on. :D

Having just finished Pride and Prejudice, I'm wondering what all the fuss is about Mr. Darcy?? What's the appeal? Can someone help me out, because I just don't get it!!

So wait, we're talking about Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudie, and Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind?

Unfortunately I haven't read Gone with the Wind, but I did enjoy Pride and Prejudice. While I can't say for certain I like Mr. Darcy more, I did enjoy his character.

Why are we even having this discussion? Just about any literary hero is more interesting than Mr. Darcy.

Gasp! I found Mr. Darcy very engaging! Ah well, to each their own :) But if we're going to talk about romantic characters...can I please throw in Heathcliff? (He has my unofficial vote)

I'm smack in the middle of Pride and Prejudice right now, so I can't really give my opinion as of yet...though I do fancy Rhett Butler quite a bit, and it will take a strong showing on Mr. Darcy's part to knock him out of the ring, so to speak. *lol*

:)

Same here. Rhett's a pretty intriguing character but that whole thing was just...unpleasant. Gotta confess I have always hated Mr. Darcy.

I'll take Benedick (Much Ado About Nothing) over either of them any day - especially the Branagh version :p

I'm a huge Jane Austen fan so that kind of makes me a bit biased, but I really can't help but like Mr. Darcy. Although, Rhett Butler did give him a run for his money.
