Forum shenanigans

I think it's safe to say that we all belong to other forums.

What kind of shenanigans go on in your other forums?

OK, I'll start.

1. A group of people (I stayed out of this one believe it or not) led a member who was universally loathed into believing that he was put on ignore by almost everyone. He had a huge, hilarious meltdown that resulted in him being banned. That was amusing.

2. For Christmas 2012 I coordinated a Secret Santa gift exchange that involved about 145 forum members. That was fun. What was more fun was seeing the outlandish and NWS gifts some people received. :rofl

3. On another forum, a group of members would arrange to switch avatars to a certain theme but not explain the hows or whys to anyone.

4. The Stewart option? Shamelessly stolen from another forum who used an esteemed member's username as a default option for polls.

5. I convinced a large group of people into thinking I married another forum member (who was in on it).

Compared with that lot I'm positively boring. I'm a 'good' member LOL. The only thing I do periodically when I'm really bored is dive into contentious debate 'guns' and 'evolution' are usually good options that get heated responses.

I once convinced a bunch of dyed-in-the-wool staunch conservative types to join a forum that was mainly populated by wannabe tree-hugging hippies. Everything pretty much went as expected. One or two of you may recall that one :rofl

I once witnessed someone destroy an entire forum community by quoting a single post.

And no, it wasn't me. :shifty

On <redacted> we all name call and otherwise insult each other daily but at the end of the day, we actually like each other, and hang out and drink beers when visiting other member locales.

That only works when you all know each other well enough to know its not hurtful. I've seen that flop horribly when people don't realise that's all good natured.

True but even the thin-skinned people there seem to get it that we don't actually hate them.

As much as I like the word, there are no shenanigans going on the two other forums I currently visit, that I know of.

One is a language forum with a huge international membership with a strict posting policy although they do have allowances for silliness on their general forum.

The other is a band forum that has slanging going on but its mostly between long time members who can dish it out and take it.

I used to visit a Phillip Pullman/His Dark Materials fan site where it was friendly for the most part but some of the threads topics would generate hostility and the thread would be locked. The fan art page was pretty cool though.

A language forum? Interesting.
