Hey Guys!
In the locality where I live, there is often cutting of trees rather than pruning and it breaks my heart to see that. Sometimes I do raise my voice but my family stops me as they don't want any disturbance in their peaceful social life. And those who are cutting trees they are like big BULLIES and they feel they can do whatever they want. The only excuse they give is, lot of leaves fall of on the car and it is difficult to clean later. WTF. No one supports me and when I emailed to some consumer complaint sites I got vague answers or no answers at all. Pruning is allowed but not brutally cutting them. My heart goes out for the nature. What to do?

1. Your family has a point.

2. Find out what your local by-laws are regarding the maintenance of trees and what may be cut, how it may be cut etc.

3. Once armed with the facts and the law you will be better prepared to tackle the issue effectively.

Well the law says that you can allow pruning on regular basis. But cutting of any branch with the width of more then 8 inches is against law. Though the society is governed by same laws but somehow effectiveness of law is rather lacking. I called up society president but she seemed so okay about it. The worst part it, everyone sees everything but they hide behind the curtains. I don't know what they are afraid of. No matter the power held by the other person, does not give him the right to rule anyone other than himself.

then I'm afraid you are going to have to take a deep breath and live with it. When you are the home owner then you have more power to make waves.

The bourgeois must be challenged to throw off the bonds of conventional thought! Long live the proletariat! Gods save the trees!

Don't taze me bro?

I agree with you. I doubt I will ever get used to the current generation's application of "dude" to the fairer sex.

My offspring, who is the same age as the OP, just rolls her eyes when I bring it up to her. *sigh*

Edit: Wait, did I just agree to being shot at dawn?

Quite possibly but you may have a reprieve! LOL

How about for every tree that gets cut down, you plant a tree.
It is a good idea and I do that every now and then. Whatever I can save from my pocket money I invest into it. The thing is, with so much of development going around every where, new roads, new highway, they make me feel sick. I will like to go to someplace like Ireland or somewhere the population is less and trees are more rich in culture. Anyway, the point is, have you ever met certain kind of people who like to interfere everywhere even when they have nothing to do with it. So I went ahead, to plant few shrubs in kind of common backyard, and they came fighting (F**K neighbors). They said we want it to be clear and maybe grass or something is suitable but no shrubs or trees.
Its like it is not worth it. Sometimes I feel like to fly so high above in the sky from this world, that doesnt seem to care, do not give a shit about life.

From a single mind the revolution of millions can spring.

When I was a little kid, I believed it. The whole concept of one leader and soon people follow for the right, for the justice but lately I cant seem to agree with it. My heart wont allow it, I am loosing hope for this world. But thank you anyway.

Um little life lessons -

1. common ground in a community has rules. Usually one needs to abide by them.

2. if you are not a home owner in aforementioned community you can suck eggs for anyone to pay attention or care what you say.

3. Pick your battles and fight those you can win.

Don't think I'm unsympathetic. I hate trees being cut down, but I also recognise when you are on a hiding to nothing. Beating your head against a wall just hurts you.

See my post about beating your head against a brick wall. You will not win being a 'child' living at home with your parents in such a community. I would love to tell you that if you made a big sign, and chained yourself to the tree attitudes would miraculously change and there is a happy ending. But it won't happen.

What you can do however is put your passion into something that will make a difference. Find a greening initiative in your town and volunteer. Do your bit to recycle, waste less, use less water and electricity. Raise funds for greening campaigns or tree planting campaigns in other parts of the world. There are plenty of them.

I understand you point. I don't think you are unsympathetic. I like when people say exactly how they feel about something, anything. The concept of societal agreement and community ground rules are much appreciated from my end but its just you know we can never win. Picking up battles in which I honestly believe is my thinking rather than ones in which I can win. I always learned in my life, fighting is important, winning is rather secondary. Fight like you may have no regrets later. I did the same in my college today. Those who stand up for right are usually standing alone. I accept that.
