    It's 1963, in a "tumbleweedy" Texas town.

What was the very last series you read?

It was Harry Potter for me, too.

Ever broken up with someone over books?

I'd have a very hard time sticking with a man who didn't read novels, because it's so much fun talking about them! I was the one who got my husband hooked on Michael Chabon, and he persuaded me to read DFW's Infinite Jest--in fact, I read it twice, and so did he, and we are the only two people...

Stupid question, but I really don't know...

That is not a silly question. I found it to be quite interesting, and looked it up. I quote: Trade edition: The edition of the book made available to and sold via the normal distribution and sales network, i.e., bookstores. The term is seldom used except when there exists also a Limited...

Who is your favourite author, and why?

Oh, I love that book, too! Michael Chabon is awesome. I'm also glued to Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. oops--I was responding to Morry, about The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay

    what entices you to purchase?

This thread reminds me that it's been years since I just browsed a store OR library at random! I used to do that. I think the biggest enticer for me is a good review, especially if it's an author I've already enjoyed.

Is anyone else reading Saul Bellow?

His book, Humboldt's Gift, was to be this month's read. I'm still reading it, and it's my first Saul Bellow book.

What you can do with a book besides reading it

This IS a funny thread, I agree--and while I've been sitting here enjoying it and smiling, I remembered something: ever since hubby and I moved into this house--17 years ago--there's been a thick, paperback copy of Star Wars wedged between a pipe and the ceiling in our basement, where we have...

Saddest/Most Depressing Novel You've Ever Read

Some of my answers are already here, but I'd add Hemingway--The Sun Also Rises, and For Whom the Bell Tolls. There are memoirs that have gotten to me, too: The Only Girl in the Car by Kathy Dobie, The Concubine's Children by Denise Chong and Sickened by Julie Gregory. Some parts of Michael...

    "Dumbledore Is Gay" says Rowling

I can't believe how much press this has gotten. Since Dumbledore is an old man throughout the entire series, and there is much about his life that wasn't completely revealed, why would we expect to even know his sexual orientation? Ron's twin brothers never seem to have girlfriends, either...

    Overwhelmed

Here, here, SFG75! If I think of how many books I've got on the shelf screaming to be read, I would be paralyzed with indecision and hopelessness. So I'm really trying to "be here now" and just enjoy whatever trip I'm taking at the time!

Usernames!!!! How did you get yours?

Ah, Sparkchaster, I didn't know that, and I'm married to an EE. I learned something today.
