Great - I hope you really enjoy it. If you do also check out "Death of a River Guide" by the same author. Very different style of book, but a good read.

It's only a guess, but I would think that tiny flying insects, attracted by the light of the bulb, sometimes lay eggs on the bulb itself. The larvae - who would be microscopic in size I guess - can then squeeze into some tiny hold or gap in the bulb that we couldn't detect with the naked eye...

Hi, new to this forum. Apart from books, my other great love is good music. Particular favourites include Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, Josh Ritter and Patty Griffin. Anyone else have similar listening tastes?

Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban is one of the best spec. fiction books ever written imho. I'd also classify 'Under the Skin" by Michel Faber as being another outstanding novel within this genre. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is a classic - and still remakably relevant today.

The Lovely Bones. I thought the first third of the book was great, but then it simply ran out of steam. To me it was a good concept that really had nowhere to go. The ending was trite, soppy and completely at odds with the tone that the novel started out with. Also - already mentioned - Snows...

Michel Faber ( Under the Skin, Crimson Petal and the White etc) is a stunningly original writer who nevers disappoints. Ray Bradbury is in a class of his own too - an absolute master who even today has few serious rivals in his genre. Those two would probably top my list.
