    Worst/Most Overrated books

This is a great idea. It shows just how very different people's taste can be. I have read some of the postings and thought  'How could you not like that one!!!', but I know that some of mine are going to be just as unpopular choices : 1) A Suitable Boy - Vikram Seth (may give this...

    Stephen King

I'm reading my first SK book,The Stand, after recommendations through this forum. I must admit though that I'm a little disappointed. Granted I'm only 250 pages into it, but I would have hoped to have been gripped by now if ever I was going to be. Can anyone reassure me it gets better or...

    Reading in the Bathtub

Thank goodness I'm not alone! Unfortunately I have an illness that, among other things, causes pains in my muscles so I have at least two baths a day (I smell fab ;) ) and I always read a book. I couldnt just lie there for an hour at a time - I'd be so bored. Oh yes, and I've never...

Read more then 1 book at once?

I normally have a couple of books on the go, but at present I'm reading four which is a record for me. They are all different - one history book, one novel, a book I'm using to research my family tree and a non-fiction book about China. I enjoy dipping into different books, so long as they...

    Holocaust Books

Some more Holocaust books for you : The Holocaust by Martin Gilbert. Martin Gilbert has a bit of a lousy reputation as a historical author but personally I thought this book was very well written and researched. Hitlers Willing Executioners by Daniel Jonah Goldhagan Quite graphic and...

    Holocaust Books

Hi, Schindler's List is actually called Schindler's Ark. Schindler's List was the title of the film. I can really recommend it. I believe Thomas Keneally won the Booker Prize in 1982 for this book. Folly xx

    The Book List

Thanks Marlasinger, I will buy The Stand and give it a go. Now I have another excuse to go back to the bookshop! :D

michael moore is a big fat stupid white man (mn', mn', mn')

Well I guess at least he has the balls to publish his opinions. I think everyone else has either lost interest or are too scared to speak out, so good on him for giving it a go. One thing I did find was his tendancy to be a bit high and mighty though, like we should all aspire to me...

    The Book List

I am ashamed to say that I have never read a Stephen King book  (I know, thats quite shocking from someone who classes herself as a hardcore book lover). I wondered, as you guys seem to have read most of his stuff, could you recommend just one and I will give it a go (although my 'to...

    Currently Reading

A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. This is the first Bryson book I've read and I am really enjoying it. He is very witty. Prior to this I read Wuthering Heights. I have told myself that I cannot profess to be a lover of books unless most of the classics can be ticked off. I still have...

    Currently Reading

I'm halfway through Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clark. It's a big book and an easy read with some subtle humour. I was given this book as a birthday present and wouldn't normally have bought it for myself but I am enjoying it. Folly xxx

    Vikram Seth: A Suitable Boy

I struggled rather early on and decided to call it a day with this one. I know this may be an unpopular opinion but I found it heavy going and rather unnecessarily long. I am sure alot of you will disagree (most of my friends do) but it would be boring if we all liked the same.

    Reading less

I have loved books since I learnt to read and throughout the years I have seen reading come in and out of fashion here in the UK. As for the argument as to whether it is 'cool' or not, I think it just depends on what social circles you mix in. I just think that reading is my hobby and...

    I'm new too!!

I can't believe Reese's pieces might just be at my local Woolworths :) I have seen the cup cake variety but I'm looking for the m&m looking ones - can you get those too? Tigress, you are indeed correct, I am female and reading back my post I should have most certainly worded that...
