I looked at a few Turtledove books and they sound quite interesting, think there was one with the English under the rule of the Spaniards after failing to defeat the Armada. Might have to give them all a look as well. Think I'll give the world war series a shot as well, won't be buying the...

    Favourite Reading Places

Me and my parents always used to go on skiing trips when I was younger, big 9 hour drives to and from, I'd spend them all reading. Back then I was mostly into Goosebumps with the quality, blobby covers, could read 2 or 3 every trip, as well as few magazines. Even had to bring a torch and a big...

    Which magazines do you read?

I don't read anything too intellectual. FHM, Loaded, Front, Bizarre, Ice, as well are FourFourTwo and World Soccer. Have a subscription to PC Gamer as well

I usually read while on the toilet, or sprawled out on the sofa in front of the telly or with some music on in the background. Can never get comfortable reading in bed for some reason. I normally spend most my free time at uni in the library reading, that's where I get most of my reading done

I'll check them all out, cheers :) Some of the Turtledove stuff seems apretty good, but the series I'm interested is like 7 books I think  (One with Lizardmen trying to take over the world during WW2 - I like the sound of that :) ) I managed to get Day of the Triffids from my...

Alright then I'll buy Forge of God :) Had a quick look around for The Space Machine (The scientific romance), can't find any reviews on it, will cost about £5 to buy, not too sure about it. Will try and find a bit more on that before I consider getting it. Still, sounds like the kind of book...

Just read some reviews for Forge of God and it sounds like a great book, not a bad word against it. Can buy it used for £1 so will probably go for it. Reading the reviews however I don't get the impression it's a book about 'war', rather just a look at how everyone might react if an alien was...

Just did a quick search on Asimov and it seems he writes the kind of books I'm after, Isaac Asimov that is. Loads and loads of results though and some seem to be a bit too futuristic for my liking, but that's just the 'foundation' series. Cheers for the suggestion, I'll check it out :)

Hi everyone I've just finished reading War of the Worlds for the second time (The first being way back when I was 11), and it has become my new favourite book of all time. The whole story is fascinating, involving Martians invading the earth and laying waste to Britain in huge mechanical...
