The Religion by Tim Willocks. It is about the Great Siege of Malta and the battle scenes would be epic. It also has a hideous villain and a swashbuckling hero. The only problem is the movie would need to be about 7 hours long.
I read Silas Marner and really enjoyed it - I would read it again.
The next George Eliot novel I read was Adam Bede which I thought was really good too.
Next I went with The Mill on the Floss, which bored me and I didn't finish it.
Where did you download it? I would love to have a look.
David Ike was a goalkeeper then a sports reporter in UK. Suddenly he was a religious figure - he called himself the Godhead - and would only wear one colour, purple I think.
A bit of a nutter but strangely fascinating.
I am another reader who found this book a little disappointing. It was okay but not what I was expecting and I was definintely surprised when I saw how short it was.
I am another who has reread 1984 & Animal Farm. I have reread Candide by Voltaire twice and most of the Sherlock Holmes stories numerous times. Dr Seuss and Asterix are books I frequently reread.
Planning to reread The Jungle by Upton Sinclair and Clockwork Orange.
As I find it almost impossible to part with books, I still have almost every book I have ever read.
These days I review them and post them on a blog - Book Review Blog.
I think this one is ideal. The Sneetches by Dr Seuss. Deals with race (through the allegory of some Sneetches having stars on their bellies and some not) and economics (a businessman takes the Sneetches for all their money in their quest for social superiority).
