How many books do you have?

I understand completely, Morry. I have attempted numerous times to catalogue my books, with little success. I always seem to get distracted by the books themselves, finding books I've always meant to read but have forgotten I own, and looking through well loved books once again.......

    help need new crime author

Isn't EGeorge amazing? Reading her books, it's so hard to believe she's an American, she writes so convincingly of London and all things English. I'm waiting for I, Richard to come out in paperback next month. And I see on http://barnesandnoble.com that there is a new one coming out next month...

    Hello from O36

I have a love/hate relationship with Atwood. I really enjoyed Handmaid's Tale and Cat's Eye, but couldn't get into Blind Assassin or Alias Grace. Surfacing really disturbed me.

    Laugh Out Loud Funny

Biblioholism: The Literary Addiction by Tom Raabe made me fall out of my chair numerous times. And it's a subject all of us can relate to......:D

    Hello from O36

I stumbled upon this forum just this week - and because of all of you I've been neglecting my work and posting like crazy! I am a "faithful" reader of: Stephen King Elizabeth George JRR Tolkien Anita Brookner Iris Murdoch Lilian Beckwith Agatha Christie Nick Hornby Timothy Findley...

Who is your favourite author, and why?

I think you're right, Ian Sanders, that geography plays a part in deciding who our fave authors might be. Being on the other side of the puddle to you, I have heard of Andy McNab (I think) but not Michael Asher or Chris Ryan. I do find that my favorite authors tend to be from one of two...

    Possession?

Possession is also one of my all time fave books. I've heard there are two types of Possession fans - those who read all the poetry and those who skipped over. I must admit I tried to read the poetry and failed..... I saw the film adaptation with Gwyneth Paltrow. It was not as good as the...

has there been any movie that was......

Right on! If memory serves, the evil entity was seven stories tall - the puny spider they destroy was barely 2 feet!! lmao BTW, the movie Witches of Eastwick was FAR better than the novel by John Updike (upon which, admittedly, the movie was loosely based). Put it this way - in the book there...

How do you choose the book you'll read next ?

When I finish a book I look at my sagging bookshelves and start feeling guilty about all the great books I own that I haven't read. I have a similar system to Ell in that I give a book 50 pages of my time - if I don't like it by then at least I've given it a fair shot. What about re-reading...

What do you use as a bookmark?

JK Rowling tells a cute story of a mother and son at one of her book signings. The mother told JK that her son was too embarassed to show JK his book, because the spine was broken, the pages were dogeared, and there was a spot of jam on it. But JK encouraged him to show it to her and she happily...

How many books do you have?

My sister's home has a loft library. When you walk in the front door you look up and see wall to wall books - it's glorious! It's the reason she bought the house.

    Library

I'm one of those horrible people who needs to have the freedom to write in their books. So I end up having to purchase them, because I would NEVER deface a library book. It is an expensive addiction!!

    Writers page w/photographic menu

:D :D :D Your post made me laugh out loud because I'm obsessed with finding a picture of the author I'm reading - I need to know what they look like to complete the experience. I'm always bringing pics to my book club meetings...... Excellent page, btw. Kudos for ALTennyson!

    Books for Step Families?

My church recommends The Courage to be a Stepmom: Finding Your Place Without Losing Yourself, by Sue Patton Thoele. ISBN for the paperback is 1885171285. Hope that helps.
