I think the two are compared since they have a few of the same people involved. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain some of the voices from The Simpsons work for Family Guy too. I'm definitely not certain. Probably the main reason they are compared is that they are both situational comedy...
Check out abebooks. It's a great site with a bunch of used bookstores and their inventories online. It's where I go to find something I can't find anywhere else.
I do pretty much the same as Kookamoor. Sometimes after waiting a very long time for the next book in a series I have to start the whole series over before I can read the new book.
I would never intentionally read from the middle of a series. When I was much younger and just getting into reading a lot of spec. fiction I accidentally started a series from the middle. I wasn't completely lost but I remember after I realized it was book two and then read the first book a good...
